   Physical Activity

The Fitzdids Activity Challenge for November and December.
During  the last four weeks from November 19th to December 14th our classes have committed to activity /dance breaks and exercise breaks throughout the day.

Our Playground Leaders.

Our playground leaders are out and about at lunchtime on Thursdays. The playground leaders  are from fifth class and play lots of games and activities with the younger children.

                                Hallowe'en Stations 2018
Our senior pupils planned and implememnted  activity stations  as part of the Hallowee'n festivities.
.

Run Around Ireland   / Run AroundEurope.

Part of our efforts to keep our pupils active is to drop everything and run one kilometre during the school day. There is strong evidence to support the view that physical exercise helps improve concentration. Our pupils have jogged the equivalent distance of Limerick to Donegal over the last three years. Distances to the nearest towns were completed over a six to eight week period. The active school commitee design fitness charts for each class to complete.  The Principal informs the pupils of their progress at assembly. We are currently running to well known sites arounf Europe. We are hoping to get to Lake Bled by the Christmas holidays.

Dancing Our Way to Fitness.

Our pupils joined schools all over the country in the Ten at Ten Operation Transformation initiatives for the last two years.   We come together on lots of occasions to dance and work out. Miss Hartnett usually leads the dancing with music being played through the intercom. Senior pupils sometimes  lead the dance routines.

Active Boxes
Each classroom is equipped with an active school box. The box contains equipment supplied to each class for the pupils to use at break times. The committee supply and check the equipment on a regular basis.

Munch And Move
We had a number of student teachers this term who assessed  the fundamental movement skills of a number of pupils. They carried out a healthy eating programme and a skills development programme over a number of weeks. It proved a very popular experience for  the pupils.

P.E. Homework
All pupils have received  a copy of the Super Troopers manual and the accompanying wall chart. Pupils follow the  recommended activities at home. There are opportunities for all the family to get involved. It also includes some wellness activities and there are lots of healthy eating recipies.
